Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi was the center of attention at Vatsalya Gram yesterday, with reporters attempting to ask him questions. The only comment he volunteered, however, was, “I came to Vrindavan to have darshan of Lord Krishna.”
On Friday, Modi arrived 15 minutes ahead of schedule, landing at the helipad on the Ramlila grounds at 9.30 where he was greeted by the Municipal chairman and other dignitaries. From there he went straight to the Sri Krishna Janma Sthan, entering by the Govinda Nagar gate.
He was welcomed by Joint Managing Trustee Anurag Dalmia, Kapil Sharma and other members of the Janmasthan Sewa Sansthan. This was his first visit to the Janma Sthan since becoming Chief Minister.
He did a tour of the site, visiting the Garbha griha, the Keshavaji, Giriraj, and Yogamaya temples and other places on the Janma Sthan grounds.
The priests honored him with a prasadi scarf and turban and offered him blessings.
The beauty of the site left him speechless. He stayed on the grounds for nearly 90 minutes, during which time the feast on the occasion of Sharad Purnima was distributed. He helped to serve the sadhus prasad, calling out “Giriraj Maharaj ki jai!”
“Mathura and Gujarat have an amazing relationship,” he added. “Krishna left Mathura to go to Dwarka in Gujarat, and I have come from Gujarat to see Krishna!”
Though asked many questions about politics, he refused to comment.
The Trustee and Secretary gave him publications and a small deity as mementos of his visit.
