Top 10 reasons why Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi is rapidly becoming unpopular in youth
BJP's Hindu lab Gujarat has given a big slap to BJP's aspirations. BJP projected that they will get 20 loksabha seats in Gujarat and CM Mr Modi was so overconfident that he just ignored the undercurrent. What is more to worry now for BJP is that the party's vote-share has reduced by 1% in this election despite winning 1 more seat compared to 2004 election.
The same supporters who were lauding Modi prior to election results were seen talking negative about BJP and Modi. Whether you go to "Pan Shops" and "Barber Shops" in Gujarat, everyone now seem to go very negative on Modi and Advani. Gujarat Chief Minister would probably have to slog very hard for next 5 years if he wants to keep BJP alive in Gujarat and India. He must "walk the talk" of Vibrant Gujarat promises else it is very likely that BJP would be bull dozed to less than 40 seats in next elections.
Here are the Top 10 reasons for downfall of BJP and why people have gone negative on Modi (gossips around)
1). Mr. Modi seen as a Party Breaker - not a Team Player : Gujarat Chief Minister after coming to power in Gujarat, slowly and gradually silenced most BJP state leaders and put himself as de-facto and sole voice of BJP in Gujarat. With that came superiority complex, arrogance and ego that was shown in his "venom" speeches across India. If it was Gujarat Inc and Modi as CEO, would he even be allowed to continue on the top spot the way he goes about making controversial speeches?. Mr. Modi has always put himself above party, but he failed to understand that over hype does not help all the time. These powerful leaders he silenced, probably worked back-door to ensure that Mr. Modi does not go far and with this election result, their morales would be boosted to go after him on every negative count. Patel community is very upset with Modi.
2) Asaram Issue a big factor: Modi's reputation that he built over the years went for a toss when he failed to act on murder issue of two kids at Asaram Ashram : Abhishek and Dipesh Vaghela. There was Gujarat Bandh where whole Gujarat protested and wanted Asaram behind bars. But there is a rumor that Advani insisted that Modi does not take action against "Sindhi's" spiritual leader and the entire Gujarati community was shocked to see Government's inaction in this matter. This also proves that even when Modi talks about clean governance, it is clearly evident that law and order is just not there in Gujarat. Laws are only for poor. This has created a large faction of people going negative against Modi
3) Right to Information purposefully abused : There is a widespread perception which is getting stronger by the day that BJP is purposefully sidelined RTI act. Be it Police or any State Machinery, citizens are just given aloof answers in most cases. This shows that there is either someone at top in Government purposefully trying to hide facts or promoting corruption. And with the election results out, it is very much possible that BJP leaders will amass as much wealth as possible as they probably sense that this could be their last 5 years in Gujarat. Lets see if Center and Opposition party keeps the tabs by using this weapon in exposing the corruption that is going on behind a fake mask of non-corrupt governance. People want more clarity on Vibrant Gujarat numbers and actual implementations, Nano deal but Modi has not come clean on either. People feel cheated by BJP.
4) BJP and Modi only cares for Big Businesses : If you are Tata or Ambani, you will get every babu in Modi's government lurking to help you. Small Businesses which were always lifeline of Gujarat are now seriously feeling that they have no hope and scope in Gujarat. There are no policies and small business promotion schemes in Gujarat. Isn't it stupid to talk about Vibrant Gujarat by only creating publicity stunts? Gujarat capital Gandhinagar as a district doesn't even have 100% Broadband/Internet coverage and mind well BJP is in power in Gujarat for nearly 20 years. If you can't deliver this in 20 years in even our Capital City and with 3 Vibrant Gujarat summits this can't be put in place, what more can people/youth expect of BJP and Modi? Common man has nothing to take pride in with Modi government.
5) Development only around Ahmedabad / Gandhinagar : Whatever little development is happening is around Ahmedabad/Gandhinagar. Gujarati's in other parts of Gujarat are not seeing any large Trade Shows, events or promotional support for their region. Clearly, people from outside Ahmedabad want to see investment in their regions. People from other regions feel betrayed by BJP.
6) BJP ministers pocketing large chunks of Black Money via Real Estate : Go to any builder in Gujarat to buy a property and you will be asked to churn out 60% cash. Plugging this hole itself will bring lot of revenue in Government exchequer. But BJP Minsters - many who have tainted criminal background are not allowing this to be cleaned up. Modi is also taking his face away wherever there is Media report on this. This has resulted in sky rocketed real estate prices making housing expensive for most middle class and lower class families. Even businesses who are looking for expansion find the realty prices just not within reach as no one would be in position to put 60% black money on table. There is a lot of frustration in business community because of State Government's inability to curb this nagging issue faced by business community. This small but powerful community do not see any hope in current BJP government.
7) Quality/Quantity of new Schools / Colleges : Where is everyone putting their money in? Education sector of course. Well so much is this chewed and over-chewed that you talk to any 10th pass desi businessman having few acres of land and he will talk about opening up a school/university. BJP has made a mockery of Education reforms in Gujarat that today any Tom, Dick or Harry is either running or planning to run a School. This is very very shocking as the most fundamental pillar of our system is abused. This is now a hot topic discussed amongst business circles.
8) No people contact : BJP Ministers hardly reach out to people after being elected. They are spoilt brats and once elected the forget their constituencies and people who brought them to power. Their wealth have zoomed and people contact shrunk. The data presented by Election commission shows that there are many tainted ministers in BJP who just don't care about people. They just care about Money and never go to people to understand their problems. Giving them tickets again was a mistake and it may prove devastating for BJP in next assembly elections.
9) e-Governance fiasco : e-Governance awards are just a marketing gimmick. Reality is that the state machinery plays passing the parcel game with no accountability including CM's office. Whether you write to indexb on investment or CMO, you will hardly get heard or the only thing you will get is, this is not the right department, you should write to so and so. And then call that so and so person who will never respond. All your enthusiasm will fade away when you see the ground reality compared to what is projected in media. Those who have gone through this experience have campaigned against Modi.
10) Environment issues : Last but most important is that BJP has converted Gujarat in Concrete Jungle with green cover going down as much as 50% in few areas in last 20 years. This has resulted in increased temperatures across the state. Water levels in most Gujarat reservoirs are at alarming low levels and we are just waiting for a trigger for social unrest. BJP does not have any vision to improve the green cover in the state. This will soon become the single most important political issue and it may be that many ministers would be asked hard questions or imprisoned for not taking care of state's natural resources and improving the green cover. In 20 years of rule, Gujarat could have been transformed into a green state with lush greenery, great landscapes, etc just did not happen and BJP is fast converting whole of Gujarat into a desert.
Let us see how many of these issues are addressed quickly by Modi's government now that he has got an eye opener alert. Mr. Modi may have to work harder, keep resources tighter and shuffle lot of his ministries/ babus and induct youngsters in ministry. He may also have to reach out young entrepreneurs and create schemes where youth takes active part in state's development.
These are real challenges at ground level. Has nothing to do with Ram temple or "weak prime minster" or "budhia" or "gudia". Unless there is real value to "COMMON MAN", Modi may just get more Gujarati people to hate him every passing day. He can just have few relatives listen to gossips in town and get a sense of what people think of him not what he thinks people think of him.
