Celebrate Vijayadashmi by defeating Congress, Narendra Modi tells Surat voters

To boost BJP’s chances at the upcoming civic polls, chief minister Narendra Modi addressed a public gathering at Surat. Modi praised BJP and party administration in SMC terming it as a remarkable one. He lashed out at Congress on various issues and termed the party as undemocratic.

Addressing his first election rally for civic polls at Limbayat in Surat on Sunday, CM Modi began his speech by hitting hard on opposition party (Congress) and termed it a party without any democratic values and ideology. He alleged that the party had framed policies to bring down the BJP-led government from power in the state. Asking people to celebrate Vijaydashmi in a unique manner, Modi urged people to eliminate Congress completely from SMC.

“Since 60 years, Congress has been in power in various elected bodies. This has transformed Congress into a party – hungry for power. Now, when it is unable to defeat BJP in the state, it is raising unwanted issues to bring down the state government. People have identified Congress and their people and so BJP have won Kathlal seat for the first time and that too without much propaganda,” Modi said.

He also lashed out at Congress for not supporting the state government in implementing GujCOC, when a similar law is in practice in Maharashtra in name of MCOCA.

The Modi magic worked again as the Bhartiya Janata Party won the district panchayat and gram panchayat elections in the union territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli on Wednesday.

BJP won eight out of eleven seats in the district panchayat polls, leaving the Congress with three seats, and assumed power in eight gram panchayats out of the eleven — with the Congress getting just two.

The victory has elevated Narendra Modi’s status as a national leader in the BJP. “There was a wave (in favour of BJP) in the Dadra and Nagar Haveli local body elections, which started from Gujarat because of Narendra Bhai,” BJP vice-president Najma Heptullah told reporters. Heptullah, who is in charge of Dadra and Nagar Haveli, gave credit to Modi and the development work he has done in Gujarat, for the victories.

Refuting allegation of the Congress of tampering with the EVMs during the elections, BJP leaders said: “Ballot papers were used in the union territory polls. The people of the territory have washed out the Congress despite the fact that the voting was done with ballot papers,”said Vijay Rupani and IK Jadeja, BJP spokespersons.

The victory is significant for Modi’s image, specifically after Opposition leader Sushma Swaraj’s statement regarding Modi and the Bihar polls. Even central BJP spokesperson Prakash Javdekar said, “Modi is a national-level leader.”

Modi kicks off poll campaign from Surat, begins with Games in Delhi

Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Friday launched his election campaign from Surat for the October 10 civic polls in six cities. Addressing the party members at a meeting here, he urged everyone to work together for the party, irrespective of the nominations.

Giving an example of late Ashok Bhatt, Modi said one should remain loyal to the party, even if he does not get a chance to contest in any election. “Bhatt had never demanded ticket or post in the party but worked loyally for the party. Your sincere and loyal efforts will help you get posts and tickets in the party,” said Modi.

He asked that the candidates to highlight the development, security issues during their campaigns in their respective wards.

Slamming the Congress for its double standards, he said the senior leaders are least bothered about the large-scale corruption in the Commonwealth Games but are more interested in digging out other scams.

Over the issue of A and B forms and mandates, He said: “The senior Congress leaders are busy with CBI helping them on different issues in Gujarat. They should have given attention to the candidates forms and mandates to avoid such a situation.”
